Volunteer Opportunities  

The SCWF relies very heavily on our volunteers.  We have some volunteers who come into the office regularly to help with clerical work.  We also have special events throughout the year when we need extra help from volunteers.  You can find out about our volunteer needs through this website, and also through email notifications.  To receive notifications by email, send your name and zip code to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Special Events
May 27, 2011 - Hot Dog for a Dollar at Earth Fare, Columbia - All proceeds benefit SCWF!!  Volunteers needed to grill and sell hot dogs.  4-6pm

August 13, 2011 - Wild Summers Nite Auction - volunteers needed to set up, sell raffle tickets, work registration table, tend bar, cashier, and clean up.

September 26-30, 2011 - Volunteers needed to help with admin work for Women's Outdoor Recreation Retreat.  Days/times TBD. 

Working Outdoors
Family Nature Walks - naturalists needed to guide families (sometimes with small children) through natural areas around the state.  Volunteer will need to coordinate with staff of local park to pick a date and time.  SCWF will publicize the event. 

Gardeners are needed to assist with wildlife habitat gardens at various schools, businesses and other commuity places. 

SCWF Representative
Setting up and participating in various fairs (i.e. Palmetto Sportsmen's Classic, National Hunting and Fishing Day, Friend of EarthFare, SCWF Bass Tournament, and others)

Office Aid
Assist SCWF staffers in Columbia - sending out mailers, updating databases, sharing good/funny stories with us

Other
If you have specific talents that you feel SCWF would benefit from (i.e. public speaking, design skills), please let us and know and we can work together on collaborating projects.

 

Internship Opportunities

 

Term:
Fall, Spring, Summer

Major Recommended for Position:
Advertising, Public Relations or Visual Communications

Pay:
UNPAID; flexible hours

Duties of Intern:
Support Coordinator of Membership & Development and Coordinator of Conservation & Policy in daily tasks and long-term projects:

  • Assist in the maintenance of membership database, development of member campaigns, and solicitation pieces;
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of event fundraisers including organization, advertising, and volunteer, media and community relations;
  • Assist with the creation of newsletters and other publications to write, design, and layout contents;
  • Work with staff, members, board of directors and the community to provide communication with all parties.

Skills Required for Internship:
Intern should have an interest in development, special events and familiarity of writing for different means such as news releases, brochures, advertisements, and web and newsletter articles. A knowledge of software programs such as Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Access, and other Microsoft office systems is preferred. Intern should be comfortable in communication via phone to promote activities of the organization to the media, donors and members. Must be a self starter, efficient, motivated and be a team player.
