MICHELIN AMERICAS RESEARCH COMPANY (MARC)


ECO Mission Statement:

MARC received Wait Certification in October 2002.
• The Wellness, Wilderness and Garden Club approach to campus environmental initiatives including the dedicated use of 10+ acres of pristine land was adopted at our facility (Wilderness Trail).
• Environmental Website was created and is available to all Employees, which includes information on environmental happenings on campus, as well as links to outside sites such as SCWF; SC Dept. of Natural Resources; National Wild Turkey Federation, etc.
• Earth Day Expo held each year around Earthday; area vendors are invited; along with our neighboring high school’s agriculture department and career class students.  Displays are set up and material hand outs are given to the employees during the event which promotes environmental stewardship.  This event is not only for the MARC campus but other local Michelin sites are invited. 
• Birdhouse builds and tree planting project conducted with high school students from the Agriculture and Career classes.                                    
• Butterfly Garden & Carolina Fence established on campus
• Sponsored and assisted in a Butterfly Garden & Carolina Fence build at nearby high school.
• Installation of bird feeders and Humming bird feeders on campus
• Mural created and displayed to promote appreciation for wildlife and its habitat with the message….”Together, We Can Make A Difference”.
• Recycling Program, waste reduction, etc. are an ongoing commitment for the entire site.
• Team sponsored bulletin board in the cafeteria to promote “reduce, re-use, recycle”.
• Team Sponsors Adopt-A-Highway program for Michelin Road adjacent to MARC.
• Flowers in Pots at various locations maintained

PROJECTS COMPLETED FOR 2010:
• Annual Earthday Expo held on April 22nd at the Michelin Conference Center with a record attendance of approximately 1,000.
• Bird house build at high school - half were given to the school and the other half used as door prizes at the Earthday event.
• Conducted a total of 3 Adopt-A-Highway pick-up events during 2010.
• Installed additional bird feeders on campus.
• Mural was refurbished since it had been in place for a while; a change to our message was made stating, “Together, We Are Making A Difference”, which we are proud to note.
• Butterfly Garden & Carolina Fence clean up, which included mulching the area.
• Expanded the “Drain Frogs” program to educate personnel & prevent improper fluid disposal. 
• Sponsored ECO photo contest on campus.
• Support wildlife management program at “sister” WAIT site – Laurens Proving Ground
• Facilitated the planting of 43 mid-maturity trees on the campus
• Team members developed grant proposals for Michelin Stewardship Grants program, and were awarded  two community environmental education grants: 
         o Roper Mountain Science Center – targets 14,000 -17,000 participants annually
         o Lake Conestee Foundation (component of the Swamp Rabbit Trail) – targets middle school programs and tourists of the Swamp Rabbit Trail
