Below is a description of our habitat activities during 2009:

  • Implemented Adopt-a-Garden program for our Butterfly Garden - divided garden into plots to allow groups and individuals to maintain.  This created more employee involvement as well as family participation.
  • Maintenance and mulching of Shade Garden area.
  • Monitored bluebird nesting in one bird box.
  • Monitored caterpillar activity in butterfly garden.
  • Variety of wildlife activity in our Butterfly and Shade gardens included: rabbits, butterflies, hummingbirds, various species of songbirds, snakes, frogs and insects.
  • Natural pond area included sightings of deer, turkey, raccoons, ducks, herons, snakes and geese.
  • Cleaned trail around pond for employee access.
  • Also, defined routes for short and long versions of new nature trail.

The 2010 plan includes the following:

  • Additional plantings in Butterfly Garden and add new benches.
  • Open nature trail(s) to workforce - add educational signs along trail.
  • Add game camera to nature area to monitor wildlife activity.
  • School outreach project.
  • Employee education about wildlife on property.
