Below is a description of our habitat activities during 2009:
- Implemented Adopt-a-Garden program for our Butterfly Garden - divided garden into plots to allow groups and individuals to maintain. This created more employee involvement as well as family participation.
- Maintenance and mulching of Shade Garden area.
- Monitored bluebird nesting in one bird box.
- Monitored caterpillar activity in butterfly garden.
- Variety of wildlife activity in our Butterfly and Shade gardens included: rabbits, butterflies, hummingbirds, various species of songbirds, snakes, frogs and insects.
- Natural pond area included sightings of deer, turkey, raccoons, ducks, herons, snakes and geese.
- Cleaned trail around pond for employee access.
- Also, defined routes for short and long versions of new nature trail.
The 2010 plan includes the following:
- Additional plantings in Butterfly Garden and add new benches.
- Open nature trail(s) to workforce - add educational signs along trail.
- Add game camera to nature area to monitor wildlife activity.
- School outreach project.
- Employee education about wildlife on property.
