Ongoing initiatives include:

  • Upkeep of the flora.  The plant life selected for the WAIT garden have several requirements: 1) they must be native species, 2) they must be drought resistant and 3) they must be able to support the variety of insects and mammals that may visit the location
  • Upkeep of the pond.  The pond is approximately 8' long x 6' wide x 6 ' deep and supports a number of thriving fish and plant life (mainly water lilies).  Our associates share the responsibility of feeding the fish.
  • Education.  BMW invites a middle school class to help with the spring and fall plantings of the WAIT garden.  Felicity Henderson, who helps with the garden and plant selection, provides the tools necessary for BMW to do this planting.  The children help split and remove plants, plant new flowers/plants, and spread pine straw.  For their efforts, the children receive a tour of the facility, receive refreshments in the main cafeteria and also get to take home one of the plants that was removed fromthe garden so they can plant it at home.
