SCWF Awards Nomination Process
SOUTH CAROLINA WILDLIFE FEDERATION CONSERVATION AWARDS PROGRAM
The Conservation Awards Program is an educational program designed to recognize and encourage outstanding achievements in the conservation of South Carolina’s natural resources and in the preservation and enhancement of the quality of our environment. Recognition is given for exceptional accomplishment and effort by individuals or organizations. Nominations may be made by an organization, business, or individual. Categories are suggested areas of recognition; recognition in each area will not necessarily be given each year.
CONSERVATIONIST OF THE YEAR will be chosen from among the nominees in the designated categories.
AIR CONSERVATIONIST should have demonstrated leadership in the field of air quality protection.
COMMUNICATION CONSERVATIONIST should be recognized in any medium, including art, and should have created a public awareness of the importance of natural resources conservation and the maintenance of a quality environment.
EDUCATION CONSERVATIONIST should have accomplished and demonstrated effective educational methods directed toward conservation at any level of the educational process.
FOREST CONSERVATIONIST should have made an outstanding contribution to the field of forest management or conservation.
INDUSTRIAL/COMMERCIAL CONSERVATIONIST should have demonstrated leadership in environmental protection, conservation, or restoration. On-going conservation programs are appropriate.
LAND CONSERVATIONIST should have successfully demonstrated the benefits of conservation measures applied to land and related natural resources.
LEGISLATIVE/GOVERNMENT CONSERVATIONIST should have made an outstanding contribution on behalf of resource conservation through legislation or government policy.
ORGANIZATION CONSERVATIONIST should have demonstrated keen interest in projects or programs which deal with basic and serious natural resource problems and issues. An action program should have evolved from that interest.
OUTDOOR ETHICS CONSERVATIONIST should demonstrate individual or group respect for the out-of-doors and promotion of this concept within the community.
WATER CONSERVATIONIST should have made an outstanding contribution to the protection of water resources, water quality, or a program for sound management and planning for water resources.
Wildlife And Industry Together (W.A.I.T.TM) CONSERVATIONIST recognizes corporate landowners that have integrated wildlife habitat needs into corporate land management decisions.
WILDLIFE CONSERVATIONIST should have made a significant contribution to responsible management and/or restoration of wildlife, including fisheries.
YOUTH CONSERVATIONIST should be an individual (or youth group) under the age of 21 as of December 31, 2009, and should have demonstrated extraordinary ability, leadership, and accomplishment in any phase of conservation.
HARRY HAMPTON, WOODS AND WATERS CONSERVATION MEMORIAL JOURNALISM award recognizes excellence in natural resource reporting. (This is a special award that is not eligible for Conservationist of the Year.)
BOOTSIE MANNING MEMORIAL WILDLIFE HABITAT award will recognize a group or individual who has shown excellence regarding certified Backyard Wildlife Habitats, Schoolyard Habitat s, or WAIT sites.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT award winner should have demonstrated, over the years, dedicated environmental commitment resulting in significant accomplishments which further the SCWF’s mission which is to: Advocate for wildlife, habitat and the environment, educate citizens in the conservation ethic, and support outdoor tradition.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARATION:
Nominations should be received NO LATER THAN NOVEMER 13, 2009. Attach a typewritten one (1) page description, addressing each of the guidelines listed below. Include in this write-up only information on the nominee’s achievements which is pertinent or useful; at the same time, please be sure to provide enough information to allow the selection committee to judge the application fairly.
Please use 8-1/2” x 11” paper typed on one side only. When a company, organization, publication or other body is nominated, please include the name of the individual who is primarily responsible for the accomplishments detailed in the nomination. Nominations received which are not in substantial conformance with the above instructions and guidelines may be rejected. PREVIOUS NOMINATIONS WHICH HAVE NOT RECEIVED RECOGNITION MUST BE UPDATED AND RESUBMITTED TO BE CONSIDERED.
NOMINATION GUIDELINES:
Who? If the nominee is an individual, were the achievements a part of the normal job responsibilities, or did the nominee act “above and beyond the call of duty?” If so, how? If the nominee is an organization, who was primarily responsible for success, and how many of its members participated in the achievement? What? Briefly describe the projects or achievements for which the nominee should be recognized. Indicate how it demonstrates leadership, advances conservation, or inspires others. Where? Describe the size, significance and scope (local, state, regional or national) of the project. When? Is this an on-going effort, the result of a long-term commitment, or a one time project? Has it been in place long enough for results to be apparent? How? Can the methods employed be used by others? Were original techniques or approaches used? Highlight innovative approaches.
RECIPIENTS OF THESE STATE AWARDS MAY BE SUBMITTED FOR NATIONAL AWARDS AND RECOGNITION.
